TxtMeNow Social Media technology supports Nenshi campaign win
October 25th, 2010
Calgary, AB – October 25th 2010.
One of the differentiating factors in Naheed Nenshi’s recent successful campaign win Calgary’s mayoral race was the creative use of wireless technology and social media. TxtMeNow mCommerce was engaged by the Nenshi campaign to provide the platform and analytics for the social media aspect of the campaign. Social Media deployment for the Nenshi campaign included centralizing messaging and published media on TxtMeNow’s “313131” shortcode. The campaign included weekly information push-outs for keeping people appraised of new ideas and campaign issues, as well as a push-outs reminding people to vote. Campaign questions were received and answered by text message. For example:
“Nenshi 4 Mayor - Airport Tunnel petition released - learn more @ BuildTheTunnel.ca Txt stop to 313131 to stop msgs, std msg/data rates apply”
Anil Hasham, TxtMeNow’s president added “the Obama presidential campaign in ’08 proved the effectiveness of adding a social media dimension to a political campaign. We are still learning and experimenting with text and social media in the political campaign arena, and finding new ways to innovate through complimenting Social Media with traditional print and electronic media. The cost effectiveness and immediacy of text messaging added a whole new dimension to this campaign. We are delighted with Mr. Nenshi’s win.”
“Thanks so much for all of your help throughout the lead up the election - this text campaign was one of the coolest things that we did!” – Richard Einarson, Nenshi Campaign
